Paris Olympics Highlight Questionable Therapies and Treatments

The Zimbabwean government has directed Zesa Holdings to avoid load-shedding at the venues hosting the Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit to prevent any potential embarrassment during the event.

Currently, Zimbabwe is grappling with severe power outages, with some regions experiencing prolonged blackouts due to outdated power stations, an El Ni�o-induced drought, and various other challenges in the investment-starved southern African nation.

In a letter addressed to Zesa's executive chairperson Sydney Gata, Energy and Power Development Secretary Gloria Magombo instructed the power utility to maintain continuous power supply to the New Parliament Building, Harare International Conference Centre, and the University of Zimbabwe throughout the summit.

"Zimbabwe will be hosting the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government on August 17 under the theme: Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustained Economic Growth and Development Towards an Industrialised SADC. Several meetings shall precede the summit. The ministry is, therefore, requesting Zesa, through ZETDC [Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company], to ensure uninterrupted power at venues during the SADC summit period," part of the letter stated.

The government has invested millions of US dollars in preparing for the two-day SADC summit, even as the nation faces a devastating drought that has left over half of its approximately 16 million citizens facing starvation.
