Tanzanias Prof. Janabi Appointed WHO Regional Director for Africa

Tanzanias Professor Mohamed Yakub Janabi has been elected as the new Regional Director for Africa at the World Health Organization (WHO). This decision was made during a voting session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa held in Geneva.



The announcement came from Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, Liberias Minister of Health and Social Welfare, who chaired the session. She stated that the committee had adopted two resolutions, one of which nominated Prof. Janabi for the position, in accordance with the organization's constitutional guidelines.



The Tanzanian delegation erupted in applause and celebration upon hearing the news, marking a significant achievement for the country. The proceedings were briefly paused to allow the delegates to express their joy over this historic moment. Following this nomination, the decision will be forwarded to the WHO Executive Board for final approval. If confirmed, Prof. Janabi will serve a term of five years and eight months.
