The Gauteng Department of Education is mandated to provide compulsory basic education to all learners in the province progressively The Department of Education's vision includes smart service delivery of quality public education, to promote a dynamic citizenship for socio-economic growth and development. It aims to be at the cutting edge of curriculum delivery, providing access to quality lifelong learning opportunities. The Department is committed to eliminating inequality in education. Matome Chiloane is a South African-born politician. He is the current Gauteng Education MEC and a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature representing the ANC. In the legislature, he serves as the chairperson of the education committee. He is the provincial chairperson of the ANC Youth League.
