South Africa Backs Zimbabwe Hosting SADC Summit Amid Human Rights Concerns

South Africa has supported Zimbabwes hosting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) annual summit in Harare this week, despite reports of numerous arrests and human rights violations leading up to the event. South Africa, which will join 15 other countries at the summit, stated that it lacks the authority to request a change in the events location, as Zimbabwes president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, currently holds the chairmanship.
