Former South Africa under-20 football team coach, Thabo Senong, has been appointed as the FIFA talent coach for the Luwinga Inclusive Academy in Malawi on a two-year contract. His appointment was announced by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Fleetwood Haiya during a press conference in Mzuzu.
Haiya, who has been leading FAM since December, expressed optimism that Senongs expertise would help revolutionize Malawian football, aligning with his vision of enhancing youth development and promoting local talent. The Luwinga Inclusive Academy, funded by FIFA, supports 42 under-14 boys and girls by providing education, accommodation, and football training.
Senong, who previously coached Lesothos national team and South Africas Sekhukhune United, emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent in a safe environment and fostering both their football skills and character. He praised FIFA for its support and looks forward to working with Malawian coaches to improve the countrys footballing future.
Senongs appointment is part of FIFAs Talent Development Scheme, led by Arsne Wenger, aimed at fostering young football talent globally.
