At the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Disaster Risk Management meeting in Victoria Falls on 27 November 2024, Zimbabwe's Vice President, Hon. General (Retd) Dr. C. D. G. N. Chiwenga, emphasized the need for robust early warning systems, coordination, and resilience-building. He called for accelerated implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (20152030) to mitigate risks and ensure timely disaster impact reporting for effective response. Hon. Daniel Garwe, Zimbabwe's Minister of Local Government, highlighted the increasing frequency and severity of disasters in the SADC region, urging stronger regional collaboration and capacity-building to address these challenges.
