High-Stakes Semi-Finals Set for CVA League Cup Showdown
In the men’s competition, Afrocat C and CVA League champions NamPower have advanced to the semi-finals, while NDF Phoenix and Unam Queens have secured spots in the women’s semi-finals. However, only one CVA men’s team can reach the final, as Afrocat C and NamPower will face off again in a highly anticipated rematch of the CVA League final.
NamPower, who had already claimed the league title before their last encounter, sealed their season by defeating Afrocat. This time, with both teams eyeing a coveted spot in the cup final, the stakes are even higher.
The semi-final clashes will take place at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund on November 2.
Afrocat head coach, Ishitile Aloysius, expressed pride in his team's performance, having gone undefeated in the first round. "I’m very proud as a coach, and I think the management and fans of Afrocat are equally proud," he shared. Looking ahead to the rematch, he added, "I’m not afraid of NamPower; we have an opportunity now. I have a whole month to prepare my boys. It will be a tough game, and whichever team wins will have worked extra hard."
In the women’s semi-finals, the CVA teams won’t face each other. Unam Queens will go head-to-head with the Zambezi Vixens, while league winners NDF Phoenix will battle Nakapale from the Far North League.
CVA chairperson, Veronica Sampapi, was not surprised that four of their league teams reached the semi-finals, crediting it to strong coaching. "I expected it. We have very experienced coaches working with these players, which gives us an edge," she remarked.
